Summer. Yay. It’s here! At least for now. To kick it off, we’re off to Montauk this week to truly start the summer adventures - camping on the beach. Maybe a little surf. Maybe a bike ride or two. And definitely some QT (quality time) spent around a crackling campfire. Enjoy these flavors in the boom of summertime. Here are our flavors of the month!
#87 Please, sir, I want s’more.smoky chocolate ice cream with marshmallows and graham cracker crumbleThis literary phrase was stuck in our heads all throughout the development of this flavor. (C’mon.. Dickens? Good.) So when it came time to put a name to a flavor, we went for it. Straight up. Please, sir, I want some more. This is our second S’More reconstruction - a smokey chocolate ice cream that we make using Mast Brothers' Papua New Guinea single origin chocolate, marshmallows, and a house-made graham crumble. We hope this flavor has you asking for more (and if it does, we promise to be nicer than the master and Mr. Bumble!).

Hat tip to Kerouac (The Dharma Bums) for the recipe of our latest and greatest - Trail Mix. It’s a malted Madecasse vanilla bean ice cream with trail mix fixings and a house-made butterscotch swirl. The perfect pint for your summer camping trip in the Catskills. Or in your living room.. same same.

Now announcing our May Flavors of the Month!
#85 May Margaritamargarita ice cream infused with elderflowerFor us, spring’s herald is a margarita sipped on the sidewalk in the breeze of an early evening. On the 5th of May to be exact. Naturally, we wanted to turn that evocation into ice cream. So we did! With the latest addition to our line of Cocktails in a Pint, our May Margarita ice cream. We’re making ours with Tanteo Jalapeno Tequila, fresh lime juice, and plenty of salt from our new pals at Amagansett Sea Salt co, plus a little spring fling with a floral hint.#86 Elotemexican street corn with all the fixingsThere’s nothing quite like an ear of corn, grilled, husked, and dressed up with all the fixings. This is one of those “hm, can we turn THIS into ice cream?” flavors. And we’re telling you - yes. we. can. With fresh spring corn from family-run farms from the Florida Sweet Corn Exchange, and a dash of our secret spice blend, and some mayo (yes, mayonnaise) from the incredible mayo duo, Empire Mayo, this is our mexican sweet street corn in a pint. It’s best enjoyed with a fresh margarita. Or a pint of fresh margarita ‘scream. Or both!

Happy Holidays! We’re busy bees here at MilkMade headquarters – wrapping gifts, stuffing stockings, and of course making our last two flavors of the year. And do we have some treats for you! First up is our take on the scourge of Christmas, the fruitcake. We call it “The Best Worst Holiday Gift,” and we’re betting this is one you won’t re-gift. Then we have the literal last pint of the year, appropriately called “The Last Pint.” It’s a nod to the end of the Mayan calendar (and the world?), and it’s one of our favorites. It’s a velvety mix of chocolate, chili peppers, and pinch of Maine Sea Salt. We’re pairing both these pints with some good old holiday cheer (and maybe some brandy).
#75 The Best Worst Holiday Giftfruitcake ice creamWord on the street is that there is really only one fruitcake in the entire world. It just gets passed from family to family each year (hat tip, Johnny Carson). Well, this year, it’s our year. We’ve got the fruitcake (and now you do, too). And, as is our style, we reconstructed it in ice cream form. It’s equal parts pecans, raisins, currants, candied ginger, and glacéed fruit, soaked in a maple-brandy ‘scream. We guarantee it’s the best version of the worst possible holiday gift that you’ve ever had (yes, we know that is not saying much).
#76 The Last Pintxocolatl ice cream (Mayan hot chocolate)The end of 2012 is one for the ages. Speculation over what exactly will happen come 12/21/12 (the official end of the Mayan calendar) conjures such images as supervolcanos, geomagnetic reversals, and the mysterious appearance of a certain Planet X (on a collision path with Earth, natch). We took this opportunity to pay homage to the apocalypse-predicting Mayans with The Last Pint, a xocolatl ice cream, made with Mast Brothers chocolate and chilli peppers. See you in 2013 (or not?)…

#73 The Audacity of Hopshoney-porter ice creamIn tribute to our 44th President, Barack “Ale to the Chief” Obama, we riffed off of the White House’s Honey Porter recipe (turns out our Commander-in Chief is also quite the homebrewer) and came up with this blue-state-approved honey-porter ‘scream. Made with Brooklyn’s Sixpoint Brownstone and Andrew’s Local honey, we call it “The Audacity of Hops.” Forward!#74 No Apologiesvanilla ice creamTo represent this year’s Republican challenger to the White House, Willard “Mitt” Romney, we took a page from the red stater’s playbook and went flat-out traditional. But we’re not sorry (and neither is he - vanilla is his favorite flavor!). Because, as with all things MilkMade, our vanilla is anything but traditional. Made with Madécasse fair trade vanilla, and with hints of butterscotch, we call it “No Apologies.” Believe in America!

New week, new month, new season, new flavors. Check out our flavors of the month for October featuring our fall favorites - concord grapes and HAY. (Yes, hay. Yeah, hay ice cream.)
#71 Monster Mashconcord grape ice cream with a peanut butter swirl, marshmallows, graham, and chocolate chips
All Hallows Eve brings out the (big) kid in us. And this ‘scream is the embodiment of that. It’s a kid’s dream come true - re-crafted for your refined palate. We started with our annual Peanut Butter and Jelly ‘scream (2010, 2011), a concord grape ice cream and a pb swirl madewith Saratoga Peanut Butter's Plain Jane. Then we went to town with the best in town - we mixed in fluffy marshmallows, crunchy graham crackers, intense chocolate chips from the Brothers Mast. It’s a total graveyard smash.#72 Two Snaps and a Hayhay ice cream and gingersnap chunksOh no we didn’t (yes we did). We give two snaps up, and a big hey for this month’s ‘scream. Inspired by apple cider, pumpkin picking and hay rides, this ‘scream is made out of, well, hay. Yes literally. (It’s toasty, nutty, and actually tastes quite a bit like one of our favorite sugary cereals.) We mixed in chunks of soft gingersnaps from local bakers and friends, Baking for Good. Hayyy nowww.

Got our lunch packed up, our boots tied tight.. wait, no. Summer isn’t over yet (don’t tell us otherwise). Until the mercury finally takes a big dip into the 60s, we’re gonna hold on to every last drop of sunshine, sunscreen, and ‘scream-y cocktail we can find. Check out our flavors for September.Dirty Bananabanana, rum, partyWe adapted one of our favorite good-til-the-last-drop summer cocktails, (holla, Ocean City, MD) into one of our favorite (end-of) summer ‘screams. We call it the Dirty Banana. It’s a mashup of Creme de Cacao, fair-trade bananas, and rum, for one of the tastiest (and summer-y-ist) flavors we’ve ever made. We’re going out with a bang.
Blueberry Buckleblueberry ice cream with crumbly buckle toppingMembers beware. This ‘scream must be consumed while sitting down, as it has a tendency to make one’s knees buckle. So Tweeted our taste testers when they sampled our take on the blueberry crumble, AKA our Blueberry Buckle. We took best-of-the-season blueberries and made an out-of-this-world blueberry ice cream, and topped it with a crumbly buckle topping. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Holiday is over, it’s back to business for us here at MilkMade. But that doesn’t mean the party stops. It’s YOLO JULY- we’re still rockin’ out and have crafted some flavors to accompany us. Inspired by our favorite summer punk rock songs, here are our flavors of the month for July 2012.
Rock Rock Rockaway Roadrocky road reconstructedRocky Road is so 1986 (ok, fine it was invented in 1929), and either way it’s way due for a remix. We took the traditional chocolate with almonds and marshmallows and flipped the script so it now looks like almond with chocolates and marshmallows. We stand behind our innovative thinking. We also think this flavor is the perfect topper to a day at Rockaway this summer.
Rumble in Brightonrum ice cream with chocolate babka bread puddingJust like the Stray Cats song goes, our Rumble in Brighton goes best with “a rockabilly cat with a pomp real high.” So cuff your jeans, tie a bandanna on and dig into the Van Brunt’s Stillhouse rum based ice cream. It’s topped with chunks of chocolate babka bread pudding, with babka straight from Brighton Beach.
White Light, White Heatwhite chocolate ice cream with a spiced orange swirlLike the much-vaunted Velvet Underground album, this one goes straight to the top of the charts. We took delicate white chocolate, whipped it into creamy ‘scream and then added a swirl of spiced orange, for a summery kick. It’s white hot.

Horchata Heights
horchata ice cream

Inspiration struck while listening to Vampire Weekend’s latest, describing horchata from a tiny spot in Morningside Heights. We’ve taken this delicious rice based cinnamon drink and turned it into a sweet and delicate ‘scream. Should we send them some pints?

Chocolate Candy Cane
dark chocolate ice cream with a candy cane crunch

This is our creamy and rich fair-trade dark chocolate ice cream crunched up with bits of candy cane. Perfect for the holiday season!

Caramel Corn
fresh sweet-corn ice cream layered with salty caramel sauce

It’s caramel and corn. But not caramel corn. Inspiration struck after my first visit to Cones where I tried their corn flavor. After some experimenting, we are pleased to bring you - Caramel Corn. Fresh sweet-corn ice cream layered with a homemade salty caramel sauce.

Peppered Peach
sweet peach ice cream with a hint of white pepper

There is a plethora of peaches at the Greenmarket lately, so we’re taking advantage. We created a fresh peach ice cream and decided to, hey, what the heck, throw in some fresh organic white pepper.

Blackcurrant and Gingersnap

ackcurrant ice cream with chunks of homemade gingernsap cookies

Blackcurrant and gingersnap was one of our first creations! We were so excited to see currants back at the farmers market, we just had to bring this flavor back. It’s creamy blackcurrant ice cream with chunks of homemade gingersnap cookies.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie
rich chocolate ice cream with bits of peanut butter cookie

It’s about time we busted out our beloved chocolate peanut butter combo! We’ve created a thick and rich dark chocolate ice cream and are throwing in some perfectly underbaked peanut butter cookies. A match made in heaven.

Earl Grey with Toasted Pine
smooth earl grey ice cream speckled with toasted pine nuts

With organic and fair trade Earl Grey tea, we’ve created a smooth and creamy earl grey infused ice cream. To give it a little crunch, we’re adding toasted pine nuts.

Strawberry Lemonade
sweet and tangy lemon ice cream with chunks of macerated strawberries

Strawberry, though delicious, seemed just a bit too simple. So we’re taking our favorite summer fruit and adding a little zest to it to create Strawberry Lemonade. Made with locally grown strawberries and organic lemons.
