Loren, of Sweet Loren’s, is a good friend of ours and, over the years of running our food startups, we’ve shared many a laugh, cry, and crazy story together. We met up with her to ask a few questions about Sweet Loren’s so we could share her story with you all.
MM: What was the impetus for starting Sweet Loren’s?
SL: When I was 22 years old I overcame Hodgkin’s lymphoma and became very conscious of the ingredients I was putting in my body - no junk allowed. Being a yoga instructor since I was 18, I was already a health conscious person. But, as someone with an insatiable sweet tooth, I couldn’t find delicious desserts in the marketplace that were made from ingredients That I wanted in my body. So, I started to make my own. I spent years creating recipes in my mother’s kitchen, and soon saw how other people were looking for more delicious, healthful treats like me. So, I created a line of all-natural cookie dough and brownie batter using pure and unrefined ingredients—that were also decadently delicious. When I saw how happy they made people, Sweet Loren’s turned into my mission to make delicious desserts part of a balanced lifestyle.
SL: Sweet Loren’s is the first and only all-natural cookie dough using whole food ingredients - nothing highly refined or processed. We use 100% whole grains, unrefined sugars, and no dairy or preservatives. Our cookies are amazing fresh from the oven, and offer a unique rich depth of flavor because we use these pure ingredients. The colors and design on our packaging is very fun and stands out of the dessert freezer case. Plus, all of our products are meant for convenience so that amidst your busy schedule, you don’t have to compromise the ingredients you want in your body. All of of our cookie dough is break&bake, allowing for portion control so customers can bake off as many as they want at one time. No fuss, mess or cleanup either!
SL: Hard for me to pick a favorite, depends on the mood! If I had to pick though … Our heavenly chocolate chunk cookie. Thousands of cookies later, I still think there’s nothing better than a warm, freshly baked chocolate chunk cookie.
SL: My favorite dessert in NYC is the Chocolate Cube from Park Avenue … It changed my life at first bite. It is a chocolate lover’s dream: a square of rich, dark chocolate cake, enrobed in a thick chocolate box, with a side of dark chocolate gelato to compliment it. It’s delicious but also playful and fun to eat—My kind of food!
