Alert alert. This is a major hint as to what will be one of our upcoming flavors of the month for November.
Okay fine, we’ll just get out there and say it. It’s a pumpkin flavor.
Well, of course it is! Because pumpkin is the new bacon.
Whereas apple used to the be the official flavor of fall, the pumpkin has usurped the apple and is now the trendiest fall flavor on restaurant menus. It’s everywhere, right?! Pumpkin beer, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin yogurt, pumpkin hershey kisses, even. Pumpkins pumpkins everywhere! According to NYMag's “Pumpkin is the New Bacon” (yeah, we got the line from them), pumpkin drink offerings have increased 400% in the past 5 years.
But you know what’s funny? Most “pumpkin spiced” food and drink don’t even include any pumpkin at all! That’s right - your Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks? No pumpkin in there at all! See, the “pumpkin spice” flavor in most products lacks the former ingredient and is solely the latter. It’s just spice! Mostly cinnamon, maybe some nutmeg and clove. But what is so interesting is that, when a product is named “Pumpkin Spice,” we taste the spice, and our mind supplies the taste of the pumpkin based on the reminiscence of that familiar, autumnal pumpkin pie. Wild.
Not at MilkMade, though! We just ordered crates and crates of hundreds of sugar pumpkins from local farmers J. Glebocki Farms (fifth generation, family owned farm, responsibly grown produce, in the black dirt region of Orange County, NY), and we’re excited and ready for a long few days to roast them, scoop them, and turn them into ‘scream for our November flavor of the month.
