Welcome to MILKMADE’s tumblr! Here is where we will post pictures and keep you updated about our daily ice cream endeavors. But first, let’s get to know each other.
what is MILKMADE?
MILKMADE is a membership-based ice cream company that hand-delivers fresh, homemade ice cream to New York City residents. Each month, members choose from a menu of two uniquely handcrafted flavors made with locally sourced, quality ingredients. MILKMADE creates each batch with care and creativity to bring unique, seasonal, and darn tasty ice cream straight to our members’ front doors.
MILKMADE is dedicated to sustainable agriculture and supporting local farms. Our milk and cream are sourced from a local farm in upstate New York, and we buy all of our fruit seasonally from New York City’s greenmarkets.
who is MILKMADE?
MILKMADE is Diana and Michelle, two friends who met in college at UC Berkeley and have been reunited on the East Coast.
MILKMADE is also our members, who are an integral part of our community-based model. Each month, we invite them to learn more about what goes into their monthly pint. Through visits to local farms and ice cream socials at MILKMADE’s headquarters, we hope to bring our members closer to those who produce their food.
where is MILKMADE?
MILKMADE currently serves New York City. Our flavors are developed in our tiny New York City kitchens. The production of our members’ pints take place in a rental kitchen in Long Island City.
why is MILKMADE?
MILKMADE was created out of our love for (more honestly, our obsession with) delicious ice cream, our appreciation for high quality ingredients grown with care, and our desire to keep it real and do it right, pint by pint.
In the summer of 2009, we invested in a little ice cream maker, got in touch with local farmers, and began concocting the flavors of our dreams — Maple Pancake, Peanut Butter & Brown Sugar, and Black Currant with Gingersnaps, just to name a few. We shared with our friends what little of our creations we didn’t eat ourselves. It turned out people loved our ‘scream. Now we want to share it with you, too.
